There are INFINITE benefits to gain from learning how to dance.
Here are just a few:
The overall effect is a more fulfilled, happier, & healthier you
COORDINATION & FITNESS Social dancing is a physically challenging, but low impact, way to exercise. You burn calories, increase endurance, improve cardiovascular fitness, and (if done regularly) reduce blood pressure and strengthen your bones. Developing your balance and coordination will also help prevent falls and injuries.
UNDERSTANDING HOW YOUR BODY WORKS & DEVELOPING ARTISTIC EXPRESSION Learn to use biomechanics to work your body beautifully and gracefully on the dance floor. Through mastering the dance forms, you will increase your body's range of motion and sophistication, and you will be able to craft your individual artistic expression on the dance floor.
BETTER SLEEP Sleep comes quicker and more deeply with the reduced stress caused by physical exercise and positive, carefree social interactions.
CONCENTRATION & MEMORY Learning and remembering new footwork and body movements sharpens your brain work too. Research shows that combined mental and physical activities help to slow the onset of Alzheimer's and dementia.
KNOWING YOURSELF Learning to partner dance requires a deep understanding of yourself--your strengths and weaknesses in both body & brain. You can only dance clearly and effectively with another human being when you train the ability to dance clearly and effectively with yourself.
IMPROVING YOUR WORK ETHIC & MENTAL DISCIPLINE Social dancing allows you to avoid the monotony and isolation of working out at the gym and is more fun than physical therapy to help you recover from an injury. As a social or competitive dancer, you are responsible for a dance conversation happening between yourself and your partner. This constant communication demands that you develop discipline and dependability.
DEVELOPING AWARENESS & MUSICALITY You will learn to first hear music, then feel music, and finally sense an absolute awareness of both your body and your partner's body movement. This is the key to dancing happy--to finding the absolute joy in moving with grace, confidence, and ease.
STRESS RELIEF By focusing on the immediate task of learning to dance, you forget your other worries and stress, for at least as long as the lesson and every time you practice. It's a great way to relax and to be "Dance Happy!"
COURAGE & CONFIDENCE In a safe and healthy environment, with instructors who create a positive dancing attitude during events, you can take the risks to learn and build confidence as you develop new skills.
MEETING NEW PEOPLE A non-threatening, socially relaxed environment is the best way to meet new people who share your interest in dancing. While dancing you may meet a new friend, a dance partner, or the love of your life.
I've been coming here with my husband for over a month now, and the instructors have been nothing but helpful. Very friendly and welcoming, too, especially when teaching beginners... The regulars here are also very nice, like one big family
They teach more about the fundamentals and Musicality (Isaiah's favorite word), and less about just learning patterns. They teach dancing as a vessel for expression, like an instrument to play a song, not just a series of motions to look cool.
